The Festool SP-TS 55/5 Splinter Guard is a simple yet highly effective accessory designed to deliver exceptionally clean, splinter-free cuts on the off-cut side of the blade when using compatible Festool plunge saws.
Installed in place of the saw's viewing window, this genuine Festool accessory creates a precise zero-clearance edge that is cut to match the exact kerf of your blade during first use. The result is dramatically reduced tear-out and a cleaner finish, particularly when cutting veneered boards, laminated panels, plywood, MDF and other finished sheet materials where edge quality is critical.
Designed for professional carpenters, joiners, cabinet makers and installers, it helps achieve workshop-quality results both on-site and in the workshop.
Once fitted, the splinter guard is trimmed by the saw blade during its initial cut, allowing it to adapt perfectly to the blade being used. This customised fit creates support directly alongside the blade, minimising breakout on the right-hand side of the cut while maintaining outstanding cutting precision.
For optimum performance, Festool recommends replacing the splinter guard whenever changing to a blade with a different kerf width, ensuring consistently clean cuts across a wide range of applications.
The height-adjustable design allows the splinter guard to be positioned accurately for different cutting applications and enables it to be used with or without a Festool guide rail. Whether making long rip cuts, crosscuts, door trimming or precision panel sizing, the adjustable design provides the flexibility needed for a wide variety of woodworking tasks while maintaining excellent cut quality.
An integrated reference marking indicates the front edge of the saw blade at maximum cutting depth, making it easier to position the saw accurately before plunging into the material.
This feature is particularly useful when carrying out internal cut-outs, trimming doors or making precise plunge cuts where exact blade positioning is essential. By improving alignment, it helps increase efficiency while reducing the risk of costly mistakes.
