The Makita DJR186 18V LXT Reciprocating Saw is a powerful and practical cordless cutting solution built for demanding demolition, renovation and general construction work.
Designed around Makita’s proven 18V LXT lithium ion battery platform, it combines strong cutting performance with cordless mobility, making it particularly useful when working around site or in locations where access to mains power is limited.
With a substantial 32mm stroke length and a variable stroke rate of 0 to 2,800 strokes per minute, the DJR186 gives users the performance and control needed to tackle a wide variety of materials.
Maximum cutting capacities reach 255mm in wood at 90 degrees and 130mm in steel pipe, making this reciprocating saw well suited to everything from cutting timber and dismantling wooden structures to working through metal pipework. Makita also describes the machine as suitable for spark free metal cutting and demolition applications.
Changing blades is quick and straightforward thanks to the tool less blade-change system, while the shoe can also be adjusted without tools.
This helps reduce interruptions during demanding jobs where different cuts or materials need to be handled in quick succession. The variable-speed switch allows the cutting rate to be controlled directly by the operator, helping match performance to the application.
Comfort and durability have also been considered. The DJR186 features a slim design with a rubberised grip for comfortable handling, while its compact, lightweight construction is designed to reduce operator fatigue.
Makita’s eXtreme Protection Technology, or XPT, provides improved resistance against dust and water for operation in harsh conditions. A battery protection system automatically shuts off power when battery capacity becomes low, helping protect the battery during use. Depending on the installed battery, tool weight is approximately 3.5 to 3.8kg, with dimensions of 486 x 81 x 223mm.
For example, during a renovation project the DJR186 could be used to cut through timber framing before moving onto unwanted steel pipework.
Its cordless design enables easy movement around the work area, while the tool less blade system makes switching to the appropriate blade faster and more convenient. With high cutting capacities and variable speed control, the DJR186 provides a versatile solution for professional demolition and construction tasks
